First Shot!
Ok, so today we had our long awaited doctor's appointment to hear the heart beat and make sure everything was developing normally! When we got there we had to do a brief family medical history and then the nurse took us into the room to do my exam and hear the heart beat. So she takes out her little black cordless monitor and places it on my stomach. She starts moving it around...nothing. After about 3 or 4 minutes of doing that, we STILL hear nothing. Uh oh! What is going on??? So she orders an transvaginal ultrasound (if anyone can imagine a long rubbery thing that has to go INSIDE you) so that we could possibly see the heart beat. Well we wait about 10 min to be taken to that room and I am nervous as heck...possibly the longest 10 min of my life. Poor Andy is so calm...trying to de-stress me! Finally we go in and the tech tried to do the ultrasound ON TOP of my stomach before she went inside :( Couldnt see anything! So she asks, "Ok Mrs. Vaughn, can you insert this WAND just like you would a tampon?" I was like WHAT??? Uh, OK...in it goes and we are watching the screen as the side of my cervix squishes together and the wand smashes the walls of my inards :) She moves it around to check my ovaries...everything looked normal. At this point I am thinking, "come on lady! Get to the baby already!" And FINALLY, there it is...we could see the tiny baby shaped person and the little heart fluttering, AND it did a couple of kicks for us! Yay! There really is a baby in there! This must have been the coolest thing I have seen in my life. I look over at Andy and he has a BIG smile on his face...I think it's really real for him now. We are going to be parents! After my ultrasound, the doc came in and told us everything looked great, but warned me I may have some bleeding due to my cervix being so sensitive right now. At the time it didnt phase me, but low and behold, I am indeed bleeding but glad to know it is normal :) Praise God for a good report today!
